ON FASTING…
A STRATEGY ON PRAYER AND FASTING
Often in the Bible, God’s people fasted right before a major victory, a miracle, or an answer to prayer took place. It prepared them for a blessing! Jesus fasted. In fact, Jesus expected the Apostles to fast, and He said that God rewards fasting when accompanied by prayer.
However, fasting is not commanded by God - it is totally voluntary!
What is fasting?
Fasting, according to the Bible, means to voluntarily reduce or eliminate your intake of food for a specific time and purpose, accompanied with seeking the Lord in prayer. The result of fasting brings blessings such as:
Having a heightened awareness that the source of our strength is not material, but the Lord Himself!
The “volume” of the background noise in life is turned down, while the volume of hearing the Lord speaking to our hearts is turned up.
You can fast and pray in a variety of ways (Note: Before beginning any fast, be sure to consult your physician):
#1 There is the, “Full Fast” – which is drink only.
#2 There is the, “Daniel Fast” – which is no meat, no sweets, no bread (only water, juice and vegetables).
#3 There is the, “Partial Fast” – from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm (or from sunrise to sundown) – during which time your fasting can be a, “Full Fast”, “Daniel Fast” or giving up at least one type of food.
The type of fast that you choose, the length of the fast, and whether or not you choose to fast at all, is entirely up to you.
Below are 10 ways we can be praying!
#1: Let us pray, “What does my Lord say to His servant?” (Joshua 5:14)
#2: Let us pray that we turn from all known sin in our lives (2 Timothy 2:19)
#3: Let us pray that the Lord opens our eyes afresh to the greatness of who He is (Eph. 1:18-21)
#4: Let us pray the prayer, “Here I am, Lord, send me!” (Isaiah 6)
#5: Let us pray that “everyone reaches ONE for Jesus!” (Matt. 9:37-38; I Tim. 2:4-6)
#6: Let us pray that we embody a faith that is passed down to the next generation (Mark 9:23)
#7: Let us pray for the fathers, mothers, and grandparents in our church, that their hearts would overflow with the greatness of Jesus Christ.
#8: Let us pray for moral clarity and the courage to expose not only the lies of abortion but also the lies of gender confusion being taught in our schools today.
#9: Let us pray for our nation’s leaders to expose corruption and lead with integrity. (I Tim. 2:1-2)
#10: Let us pray for the salvation of Israel! (Matt. 23:38-39; Acts 3:19-20; Rom. 1:16-17; 10:17; 11:25-27)
